All you really have to know is this: Butler was a public defender for many years before becoming a City of Milwaukee Municipal Judge. He became a Circuit Judge for a couple of years before being appointed to the Supreme Court by Governor Doyle. He is extremely liberal and is trying to keep everyone from knowing this. Gableman, on the other hand, is conservative and very law enforcement minded.
