How’s your $93 Million boondoggle going? I remember you being the loudest vocal advocate for the largest property tax raising construction project in the history of the State of Wisconsin. What are your plans for St. Croix County?

Are you going to do what you did to your own property? You defaulted on your home and soon thereafter, your mortgage company foreclosed on you. I also seem to know that the Sheriff sold your property.

Looks as if that put a strain on your marriage as well. Tammie ended up divorcing you. You and Tammie left a wake of other miscellaneous debt. Who did you think was going to pay it? I see BOA even filed another claim St. Croix County for other unpaid bills. Was that your debt Andrew? What kind of leadership and financial management will you offer to St. Croix County?

Do you still have those Packer season tickets? 4 tickets. You almost had me going back in the year 2008. You offered up 4 tickets and a 2 day hotel package just to have me outed. My buddies were thinking about it. Naw.

Been out of state for a while but came to visit my buddies OTBL. They tell me you threw your name in the hat for County board. In the famous words of Chris Mathews, “What in God’s name were you thinking?” I forgot, you have a bunch of miscreants up your way. Hold on to your hat, Andrew.

I still owe you one… And I promise to always deliver Andrew Brinkman. You can’t even manage or supervise your own family and finances, what makes you think you can do it for the County? Who would wan’t you to?

On several occasion I have posted the story about Indiana House Bill 246 introduced in 1897. The legislation would have effectively altered the mathematical value of Pi. Fortunately for the students of Indiana the bill died in the Senate. Though some may think that the “Indiana Pi Bill” is just an isolated case of legislative craziness back in an unsophisticated era, it shows the real danger of government sponsored education. But the debate over a few governmental decrees this week show that education insanity is not just reserved for farmers at the turn of the last century.

PI or PIE

In a rules debate over school lunches, the USDA is arguing over whether the tomato paste used in government education lunchrooms is a vegetable. Tomato paste provides the base for pizzas. Bureaucratic created logic states that if tomato paste is a vegetable, then the pizza has to be a vegetable under the nutritional guidelines of the USDA. Do not be surprised to eventually see a new federal program giving farmers a subsidy for growing pizza.

Growing Pizzas

Any parent or a child above the age of two would call you insane for thinking that a pizza is a vegetable. But all of this ignores the science classification of tomatoes. A tomato is not a vegetable at all; it is a fruit.

For the millenniums man and animals have drank water to naturally supply hydration to the body. The European Union this week ruled that water, more specific, bottled water does not prevent dehydration. I guess according to this line of reasoning water hydrates when you lap it from a stream or the end of a hose or in a container with an open mouth like a glass. But when the same water is put in a bottle it loses the qualities of hydration. Talk like this from an individual would get them a room at the insane asylum.

Don’t Drink the Water

A few years ago in an effort to push the nonsense of global warming, the Environmental Protection Agency ruled that CO2 is a pollutant. Many though it nutty to call the one of the gases necessary for life on this planet to be called a poison. Some joked that eventually it would be illegal for humans and animals to exhale. Tragically, legislation based on this false premise now threatens to destroy the very fabric of the modern economy.

Of course most of this craziness is driven by agendas from one group or another seeking to gain advantage through bureaucratic rulings, though I would not totally rule out the possibility that people in government are just idiots.

The danger of all this is what happens to the process of critical thinking that we call education. If the “Indiana Pi Bill” had passed then math outside of simple arithmetic for Indiana students would have disintegrated into calculated rubbish. Great engineering programs at schools like Purdue would not exist. In the era of government run education, it is folly to think that bureaucratic decrees to the contrary of scientific fact will not be placed as the truth in textbooks and curriculum material.

Government has no place in telling us what to eat, drink, or even how to breathe. And government with its illogical reasoning has no place in science or education.

All the talk about the Hudson School District buying the dog track or now receiving an offer for 65 acres of land at the Hudson Golf Course for free as part of a donation misses one important point. Meg Heaton, a parroting stooge for the Hudson government schools, blared in an article how enrollment in the district grew by 35 students. Commenting on the article, Matt Robinson wrote the following:

1.	Matt Robinson said: On October 30, 2011 at 1:28 AM
54 students home schooled? We need more home school money and capacity

Matt the solution to the mythical capacity issues at the government schools is providing the incentive for parents to seek alternatives to teachers walking out on their students, bloated administration, and nonsense like Freshman Year Initiative , Food and Fashion, or Everyday Math to name a few.

Currently within the boundaries of the Hudson School District the parents of 691 students bite an education penalty of paying for their children’s education at a private school or homeschool while at the same time being forced to pay the taxes to support the government schools they do not trust. Imagine how much excess capacity the Hudson Government Schools would have if the education penalty was removed. How many parents would pull their kids from the government union controlled classrooms if they could receive a tax credit for tuition paid to a private school that would apply even to homeschoolers? The slogan for the school district would need to be changed to read “Too Much Space for Learning”.

Another comment on the same article and a letter to the editor in the paper this week present an interesting riddle.

1.	Kari said: On October 27, 2011 at 2:36 PM
Riddle me this: the enrollment at the middle school was 1,241 last year, which was +116 over capacity. Then they added on. How does a school board approve a $2 million renovation that doesn’t even increase the capacity of the building?

Curt in a letter to the editor points out the same rube:

Then we have the latest major expenditure at the middle school. Did we, as lowly taxpayers, have any word on this expense? Of course not! It was decided by the school board that since they already had $1 million of taxpayer money previously confiscated and they could borrow another $1 million without our approval, then there was no need to involve us peons. And what did we get? A $2 million renovation that added little if any instructional space.

Why didn’t Meg Heaton bring this fact to the reader’s attention? Perhaps the motto of the school districts needs to be changed again to read “Space not for Learning”.

The only thing needed is a free market for education that allow parents to educate their children as they see fit without bearing a financial penalty for doing so. When the water is flowing out of the pool you can either build a new pool or let some water out. It is time to let students freely leave the government education cesspool.

I read a story in the Hudson Star-Observer about a young lady in town that perfectly piggy-backed with my post the other night regarding student loans and, pardon the language, bullshit college programs. My issue is not with the girl highlighted in the article; she just happens to be this week’s poster child for education immorality.

In the linked article below notice her major and career aspirations. We are wasting scarce resources on crap like a Youth Studies major. I don’t know whether student loans were involved to pay the annual tuition of $15,000 plus other expenses, but without the lure of cheap money, it is hard for me to imagine anyone paying cold hard cash for such a degree.

Where is the moral compass of University Chancellors that abet the enslavement of naïve youth to a life of debt in an exchange for a rolled up piece of paper full of nonsense? And we all pay for it. What will most do holding degrees in Youth Studies, Sociology, Women’s Studies, Homosexual Studies, Black Studies and whatever crap studies? They will find a desk in government and vote to suck the wealth out of the productive individuals.

I truly feel sorry for this generation that has been misled, misguided, and treated by the academic elite as nothing more than a walking ATM. And who will give a damn after they run out of money?

On his blog today, William Anderson an economics professor at Frostburg State University nailed the source of the country’s ills. As Anderson points out, one academic department in the United States has been the host for the inflationist mad Keynesian disease. The Princeton University Economics Department has incubated and spread the current strain of interventionist bacteria through the lies of Ben Bernanke, Paul Krugman, Alan Blinder, and Alan Krueger. Anderson states that if the people want to occupy something, then it should be Princeton University.

Princeton Economics

I feel Anderson could go farther and say that most of the academic culture in this country not only needs to be occupied, but thrown out with the garbage. In a recent email exchange with a known economics professor and historical writer, I posed the question about an individual with years of business experience and some time spent teaching college having a chance to teach economics full time at a college or university without a Ph.D. He relayed a story at a prior university where the faculty threw a fit over the hiring of a renowned and respected individual simply because the person did not hold a doctorate. A few colleges still exist that place experience and teaching ability over phony credentials. And thus ignorant students are bombarded from people like Bernanke and Krugman with law defying theories and misrepresented history.

The real problem starts well before college. As we have seen here in Hudson and any other community in the country, theoretical educational bullshit has completely engulfed K-12 government sponsored education. The century old methods of teaching reading, writing, arithmetic, history, and science were tossed out like an old toy. Catchy phrase education with names like outcome based education, space for learning, project 2025, and every politically correct curriculum took the place of a methodology focused on nurturing critical thinking.

Administrators glowed about how children with a calculator could bang out an answer in seconds. The students that once banged on calculators for an answer are now banging on drums in the streets wondering why they are buried under a pile of debt with little chance of seeing daylight. For all their button pushing, they could not calculate the simple math of indebtedness. They could not figure out that after deducting various taxes, groceries, rent or mortgage, fuel, utilities, and an auto loan from their paycheck plus a student loan payment the result is nothing leftover. Everyday math could not add up everyday expenses.

Some form of socialism has been tried through the ages, And no matter how benevolent it started the result was always a society economically divided between the poor masses and the wealthy government officials. Students today learn from government school teachers that government is good and free markets are bad. History is painted with a shade of red.

If the people want to march in the streets toward something, then they should start with their local government school districts and demand true educational freedom. The citizens of Hudson can begin by telling the school board and administrators to shove the dog track up their pompous asses.

Over the weekend I traveled out of state to visit some old friends. One happens to be employed as government high school teacher in the state we were in. From the onset, this friend continually displayed a degree of anger at the state requirements imposed upon those teaching in government schools. How dare those that had never taught design a system of evaluation. A second point of contention was that the public no longer genuflected at their feet.

On other points, I listened with a more sympathetic ear. The extra work needed to design lesson plans and tests for students with different abilities that include special education. In addition, the lack of writing skills or critical thinking by students considered academically advanced.

The little rants from our teacher friend were almost identical to the voices that we have heard from government teachers in Wisconsin. What amazed me the most is the apparent tone of anger coming from teachers living in different areas of the country. The question is why are they so angry.

The job pays a wage at least in line with most private sector jobs for non-administrative positions. Even in Wisconsin with the passage of the “Walker Bill”, government teachers receive health and pension benefits still generous in comparison to those working in non-government jobs. Almost no other job affords the number of days off including a long stretch over the summer.

When I am in the company of private school teachers that receive far less pay and benefits than their government counterparts, I seldom hear a word of anger toward their jobs. They seem to find great reward in teaching and cherish the time off in the summer as an equitable tradeoff for their rate of compensation. I do not believe that I have ever heard a private school teacher feel they are entitled to public displays of respect.

What makes government teachers so angry? It appears they want to work in a free market environment where curriculum is based on learning and not on political correctness. They do not want to be evaluated by the very bureaucracy that helps protect them from the forces of the free market. They are angry that the public is increasingly intolerant of bad performance and the public has the audacity to question their motivations for teaching. The government teachers that care are angry at a system that protects poor teachers and fails to challenge students in the fundamentals of writing, reading, arithmetic, science, and history.

Why are government teachers angry? It seems to me they want a job that provides them with all the protection and benefits of working for the government while at the same experiencing the joyous freedom of private schools.

The husband of a government teacher and a vocal mudslinging propoenent for more government school buildings, Bob Muchlinski, unknowingly made the case why taxpayers need to reject the idea of the school district purchasing the dog track. The mudslinger appeared before the City Council complaining that people are using the land where EP Rock is located as a driving range. According to Muchlinski, the practice shots are full swings.

Shank
How far does a full swing golf shot travel? For a decent player a Pitching Wedge will travel through the air about 110 yards or 330 feet. A Seven Iron flies about 150 yards or 450 feet; and a ball struck with a Driver soars 240 yards before hitting the ground. Take a look at our present high school site. I believe an average golfer could hit a 3 Hybrid 200 yards to clear the property from east to west or south to north.

The land at EP Rock would be ideal for a new high school, not that one is needed. The football stadium and track are already located on the site. Of course for Muchlinski, the proximity of the football stadium to his house has been a continued point of contention, which explains his constant harping for a new building along with its own athletic facilities. Furthermore traffic patters are already established and the site is centrally located.

In order to check and see if the EP Rock is suitable we do not need high cost consultants; we only need a few golf clubs. I will be more than happy to serve my community and hit few balls for free. Now if I can just cure my nasty slice, FORE!

The Hudson School Board following the leash of the head bitch, Second Choice Two-Names, voted to take the taxpayers to referendum for the purchase of the dog track with a price tag of over $8,000,000. What a perfect place for a school where parents can gamble with their children’s education in the hands of government union thugs. Since the spot was a former place of gambling, let’s take a look at some numbers and odds.

Monkeys and Dogs

7- The number of monkeys on the Hudson School Board that cannot muster a simple thought on their own.

1-The tracts of land already purchased for new schools. Is the mission of the school district real estate or education? Considering the first land deal I would say they are not good at either.

10 to 20- the number of dollars the school district claims the purchase will add to tax bills of a house valued at $200,000. My tax bill is loaded with about 300 of this $10 from the school district over the years.

2- the number of grade levels at the high school beneath the district’s capacity levels. The spin from Second Choice Two-Names was that all but two grade levels at 400 or more students. You only have four grade levels at the high school, which means half are fewer than 400.

0-the improvement in average ACT scores since the district began building new schools over ten years ago and claiming they need more space for learning.

100-the times we have heard how every graduating class will exceed 400 for infinity. Last year the class was under 400

2/18- the date Hudson government teachers walked out on their students in an illegal strike

7-the number of gutless school board members that did not fire one teacher for walking out

150 – the number of teachers that held a whole school district hostage.

17% or more- the guess on what percentage of students would leave the government schools if vouchers were offered to every family. Now you do not have a space problem.

23-the miles from Hudson to New Richmond. Take a drive through New Richmond and you will see how a school district bent on more space destroyed a whole town

1-the stooges writing in the local papers that cover school district news

????- what is the cost of the school yet to be built. Why vote to purchase land when you do not know what the cost of the building will be. The cost will be a lot more than 8 million dollars. What good is land if the voters won’t pay for the building? See the first land sitting vacant

100 to 1- odds of passing a referendum in this economy.

As part of his “American Jobs Act” tour, President Obama will be in Hudson next week to showcase the Hudson School District. According to White House spokesman Jay Carney, the President wants to use the Hudson schools as a blueprint for putting teachers back to work. Carney added that President Obama is particularly impressed how the school district has been able to take unemployable teachers with bullshit degrees and put them in the classroom.

The White House through the Department of Education is expected to mandate new requirements for government-run school districts across the nation copied from the Hudson School District. The proposals will require every high school curriculum to offer a mandatory class in Freshman Year Initiative plus electives in Food and Fashion along with Fishing.

The President also wants to consult with Superintendent Second Choice-Two Names on her ability to create two or three administrative jobs where only one person was needed before. Carney said the President wants to learn firsthand how the Superintendent convinced the seven monkeys on the school board that the current administrators were overwhelmed at looking to be doing something constructive and needed an assistant to help them look overwhelmed along with the assistant looking overwhelmed. The President said, “This is exactly the creative genius this country needs to improve our bleak jobs picture.”

Union leader and pretend Spanish teacher Scott Ellingson applauded the President’s plan. Repeating previous idiotic economic views, Ellingson said, “Everyone knows that taking money from taxpayer’s pockets and giving it to a teacher helps put spending into the economy since teachers don’t have to worry about saving for their taxpayer funded pensions.”

Finally in a move patterned after the theme of the Hudson School District, the President is considering changing the theme of his jobs plan to read “Space for Jobs”.

Regarding my post on the ACT scores turned in by students in our area government schools, a few more thoughts crossed my mind. As I mentioned, the results from Somerset and St. Croix Central bordered on the line of moronic. Both of the school districts had an average ACT score around 21 with roughly two-thirds of the seniors taking the exam.

No doubt the teachers in Somerset and St Croix Central participated in some form of protests over the Walker Bill. The ACT scores from their students, which have shown to be pretty consistent over the last 15 years, give testimony to the absolute incompetence of the teaching staff at all grade levels.

Considering the number looking for teaching positions, I have to wonder why the whole lot in Somerset and St. Croix Central are not fired. Or why the sheep for parents have not taken to the streets calling for an end to this educational embarrassment and demanding release from this system through educational tax credits or vouchers.

Just imagine what average scores would look like if every senior had to participate. The following six states require every senior to take the ACT exam: Colorado, Illinois, Kentucky, Michigan, Tennessee and Wyoming (Mississippi had a 96% participation rate and Louisiana had 98%). The average score ranged for these states from 19 to 21.

And you still think government needs to be involved in education?

The local shills for government education, Meg Heaton of the Hudson Star-Observer and New Richmond News reporter Jackie Grumish, once again missed the story behind the ACT scores reported by the local school districts. The story out of New Richmond even boasted how their average test scores bested every other district in the county.

Students in New Richmond had an average test score of 23.8, which was a full point higher than last year. Hudson students came in second with an average of 23.7 and the River Falls average was 23. Scores from St, Croix Central and Somerset came in with a moron like averages of 21.5 and 21 respectively.

The New Richmond scores caused New Richmond Curriculum Director Jess Ferguson to crow about what she termed awesome results. Perhaps intentionally, everyone is missing the percentage of seniors taking the ACT at our local high schools and how they fare against the top districts in the state.

The number of students taking the ACT in New Richmond equaled 58.4% of the senior class. Hudson on the other hand had 70% participation and 77% of the seniors in River Falls took the exam. One can only speculate what the scores in New Richmond would look like if a higher percentage of the senior class had taken the exam. But this should give no comfort to the parents and taxpayers in Hudson and River Falls about the quality of their schools.

Whitefish Bay High School north of Milwaukee and a similar size to New Richmond turned in an average score of 26.6% and a participation rate of 88.4%. Over the last 15 years the lowest score was 24 and the minimal percentage taking the test was 78.4%.

Elmbrook High School students turned in average score of 25.2 with 87% of the seniors participating, a rate that has steadily risen over the last 15 years.

Rounding out are sample is the Arrowwhead School District that showed 83% of the senior class turning in ACT scores with an average result of 24.8.

It is obvious that our local government institutions of learning not only lag behind the top districts in scores, but come up dreadfully short in the percentage of the senior class taking the ACT. The real question behind the local test score stories is: How low would the scores be if Jethro Bodine and Ellie Mae had decided join the ones that did take it?

Naught goes into naught, naught.
