I have a friend who lives in Stillwater. I saw him tonight and we had a conversation about a few things. First of all, this person grew up in Ladysmith. We were talking about the upcoming deer hunting season. He normally goes back to Ladysmith and hunts on the family farm, which is about 100 acres. He indicated to me that this would be the first time that he would NOT be hunting. He said that the $250 that Doyle was asking him for an out-of-state license was a bunch of crap, so he is boycotting the hunting season. He said that he will go up for the week and just do a little work around the family farm. This particular farm has been in his family for over 100 years. So his family has paid taxes on that land for over 100 years and he is charged $250 to go back and hunt deer. Do you know what he told me? He said Doyle can Go To Hell.

P.S. He also told me that he put a VOTE NO sign in his yard for the upcoming Stillwater referendum.

“After reviewing the outline of this deal, one must assume the state(Kitty Rhoades) sought advice from the out-of-work financial experts in the sub-prime mortgage industry. Yes, some taxes increases were prevented. However, much of the Governor’s new spending goes forward using risky financing,”

“There will be legislators(Kitty Rhoades) hiding behind eliminating a few tax increases when talking publicly, but then contacting special interest groups to take credit for all the new spending. A few battles were won for the taxpayers, but ultimately the overall
war against bad budgeting has been lost again,”

“The legislative leaders(Kitty Rhoades) are intentionally rushing this vote. Every time a budget vote is rushed in this manner, it’s because they are trying to hide the warts. Makes you wonder just how much pork and favors has been offered to garner yes votes,”

Wisconsin’s problem is not that we tax too little. It is that we spend too much.

If common sense doesn’t lead us to that conclusion, simple arithmetic will.

Wisconsin is already one of the nation’s most heavily taxed states. Adding to the burden would make it virtually impossible to attract new jobs while destroying more than 50,000 of the ones we already have.

By costing us jobs, raising taxes would trigger an economic spiral that would cost us revenue too. In the long run — and perhaps in the short term too — raising taxes will make the deficit worse, not better.

Working families are already stretched to the limit. They’re paying more for groceries — housing — utilities — gasoline — and other basic needs. It would be unfair — and it would be wrong — to raise their taxes too.”

Jim Doyle, head union thug for the state of Wisconsin, during his last re-election campaign.

In a precursor of what lays ahead for the state of Wisconsin, angry taxpayers will be demonstrating in Madison this Wednesday (see story). They will be advocating for no new taxes in the next state budget, which has yet to be determined. This struggle is just in its infancy. With the upcoming surge of babyboomers that are set to retire, our state’s budget will be a fight each and every year. With all of the promises that our state has made to the many public employees, the liberals in Madison(including our very own Kitty Rhoades and Sheila Harsdorf) will be unable to shift the burden of higher taxation from one taxpayer to the next. This is something that they have certainly become adept at. Please note the ABSENCE of both Kitty Rhoades and Sheila Harsdorf from the list of legislators who have signed a “no tax increase” pledge- See Signatures

Shifting the burden to “Some Other Sap” has been the favorite game of the Madison politicians for quite some time. In the last few budget “negotiations” the ploy has been to take money from the university system, allowing that very system to drive tuition through the roof in order to recoup the funds. Is this reducing the tax burden? No, it’s simply shifting the burden to another individual. And let’s not forget the “tobacco settlement” of $500 Million which was spent in the time it takes for a cigarette to burn out. We’ve also seen the creation of new taxes, such as the new wheel tax in St. Croix County of $10 per vehicle. Strangely enough, the county administrator in Eau Claire County is now pushing for the exact same fee. It’s funny how that works. There is no effort to make the structural changes that will be required to save our state financially. Just create another tax or shift the burden to another taxpayer.

This “Some Other Sap” mentality can be seen in the most recent partnership between WEAC, the Wisconsin Counties Association, the Wisconsin Realtors Association, the Wisconsin Transportation Builders Association, and Wood Communications Group. This group is traveling the state and stumping for “lower property taxes” and “quality education”. Loaded audiences of school teachers and other public employees will be filling an auditorium near you (see first meeting) in an effort to convince the unsuspecting public that there needs to be a better way to fund education. What they are really telling you is that would like to shift the burden of this taxation away from the homeowners and down to Madison. Their goal is to increase the income tax. They don’t want the local homeowner to have any idea what comprises their budget and how much it actually costs to run the K-12(or is it PreK-12?) system. Shame on the Wisconsin Realtors Association for aligning themselves with such ultra-liberal organizations.

So what will happen in Madison this week? Many protesters will converge on the capital. Unfortunately the majority of those protesters will be those that live off the backs of the taxpayers (see story). So not only does the average taxpayer have to take the day off and pay our own way to Madison to make our voices heard, we also have to pay for the public employees to take the day off and pay for their travel expenses so they can counter-protest against us. It’s a wonderful mess we’ve created isn’t it?

Wasn’t Kitty supposed to be our savior in Madison? Wasn’t she supposed to stand up to the big spenders? Didn’t the Chairman of the Republican Party in St. Croix County write a letter a few weeks ago telling us to thank Kitty for holding the line on new taxes?

Boy it didn’t take Kitty long to show her true colors! Here come the tax increases. First Kitty said yes to spending $80 Million MORE than the original increase for PreK-12 and now she has rolled over completely and given the Democrats $500 Million MORE in cigarette taxes!

“We offered to accept $500 million in new spending with no strings attached, but they said that wasn’t enough,” said Rhoades.

Kitty Rhoades, our hero. No wonder the local liberals love to put her sign in their yard.
