River Crest Funnel Finally Paid Off?

The funnel under County F connecting the River Crest Elementary campus and Camp St. Croix has been fully funded through vendor donations, arm twisting, some sucker fees and the YourMightyCashAgreement of Greater St. Paul.

Hudson School Superintendent Mary 2nd Choice-Two Names made the announcement at the Aug. 9 Board of Flunkies meeting. The cost of the funnel was shared equally by the YMCA and the school district, with the YMCA’s portion never fully accounted for and paid for by a check that to date has never been seen.

The district’s share of the funnel was $111,000. The donors included:

at $15,000 and above, the Andersen Corporate Foundation (made $750,000 from putting windows in the new school) andRiver Crest Elementary Parent Group;
$5,000-$14,999, Wendell A. Petersen, Phipps Foundation, Lynn Robson and Mary 2nd Choice-Two Names;
$1,000-$4,999, Hudson School District highly excessive administration,Hudson Daybreak Rotary, The RiverBank, anonymous, Education Foundation of Hudson, Erik, Kristian and Sonya Bell, Hudson Community Fund, a donation in memory of Robert H. Lee and the Rowen family;
$500-$999, Viking Electronics, Associated Bank, B&B Electric(made $50,00 from new school), Commercial Management, Greystone Real Estate, Hudson Noon Rotary, Hudson Physician’s Fund, Hudson teachers’ union WEAC(good thing they got this money before Walker took office…), Ken and Katherine Konrad, Ratwik, Roszak & Maloney P.A., Robson Commercial, Safeway Wisconsin Bus Co., and Tom and Cindy Brinsko(made over $500,000 in one year as Y director!); and
$50-$499, Christenson Vision Care, Tom and Char Holland(voted numerous times to give thousands of dollars to the Y as a school board member while he was a YMCA director!), Metro Sales, Hudson PC’s, the Kaisersatt family and Larsen Sports Medicine.The district also raised $6,000 from the sale of engraved pavers used in the tunnel and $3,500 from excessive transportation fees.

One has to wonder what Phil Pfuehler of the River Falls Journal was thinking when he wrote his “article” in this week’s paper. Phil likes to put quotation marks around the word “tools” in an attempt to belittle the proper structural changes that our courageous governor Scott Walker has implemented. I personally think this type of “journalism” is disgusting. Maybe Phil should look for another “job”.

“Tools” to save money for schools don’t always add up

River Falls School District gets a year’s reprieve. Financial pain from big state aid cuts won’t be felt until the 2012-13 school year.

When that happens, projections show the district may need to cut a record $1 million to balance the next year’s budget.

Superintendent Tom Westerhaus said a shortfall of that magnitude will mean eliminating programs and likely increasing class sizes. Result: Teachers, students and parents will be affected.

What saved the district for the 2011-12 school year was a federal jobs grant. That money came last year as part of national legislation to attack unemployment.

Westerhaus said River Falls was cautious and held on to most of the money.

This school year, however, it will use the rest, about $700,000, and be able to keep up to 12 teaching jobs that might have been lost.

Without the federal jobs grant, school officials and the school board would have been working this summer to plug a $700,000 budget shortfall.

Gov. Scott Walker claims his $900 million budget cuts for public education will be more than offset by diminished collective bargaining for teachers and force them to pay for some of their health insurance and pension benefits.

Walker has used the word ”tools” to explain how school districts will end up with more money because of the legislative reform he proposed and got passed by Republicans in the Senate and Assembly.

That message was picked up in a recent story carried by KSTP-TV out of the Twin Cities with the headline, “Wisconsin union changes saving schools millions.”

In the story, state Sen. Sheila Harsdorf (R-River Falls), who won her recall election last week and has a son who attends River Falls High School, was quoted as saying: “It means that we can save teacher jobs and really provide a better value for the taxpayers of the state.”

What the KSTP story didn’t address was the sizable cutbacks in state aid to school districts.

According to Westerhaus, for the new school year in River Falls, the changes break down this way: Loss of state aid, $1.6 million; gains from teachers and staff paying more for health insurance and pensions, $900,000.

Blend them and the result is a negative $700,000 for River Falls public schools. The saving grace: Being able to tap into the federal jobs money held in reserve from last year.

“We’ll be audited on how we used that money, but unfortunately it’s just for this year,” Westerhaus said. “If we didn’t have that, we’d be going through lots of cuts.”

Now I get it. No wonder things got out of hand yesterday at the bandshell in Hudson. The uber thug Glen Hartman of the Hudson police was in charge of handling the lunatic liberal Shelly Moore supporters. Far be it for ole Glen to actually enforce the law against his liberal buddies. Nope, nobody can see anything wrong with what happened in the park yesterday.

I can tell you that the one thing completely wrong is that the uber thug Glen Hartman gets to retire from the police force without EVER having contributed to his own pension. That is a contribuation that the taxpayers have made of 18% per year for the while time this wanna be bad boy has been a government thug.

Governor Walker never should have exempted thugs like Glen Hartman from the change in pension contributions. This guy shouldn’t even have a job, let alone a pension.

So this is what civility is about? Remember when Shelly Moore rented the bandshell and announced her candidacy? Did you see teaparty people ranting and raving, being disrespectful and shouting obscenities?

Where were the Hudson police yesterday? Why didn’t they arrest these people for disorderly conduct, disturbing the peace or inciting violence? Maybe it’s because the police thugs are on the same team as the other government union thugs who showed up yesterday.

What a pathetic display from the Shelly Moore supporters. Sure can’t let anyone have their right to free speech now can we? Is this what Shelly teaches her children to do? And to think these are the same people teaching our children about “anti-bullying”. How ironic!

Convicted criminal Chris Larson is in town to campaign for Shelly Moore. How appropriate that a convict is promoting Shelly Moore, who wants to steal more money from the taxpayers to line her pockets.

We all know that Larson was convicted of shoplifting, which looked really good on his resume when he ran for the state senate as a democrat. Stealing is all these people are good at. I understand that when Larson ran off to Illinois this spring to avoid doing his job that the retail stores in the Land of Lincoln had to increase security with his presence in the state.

I can’t tell you how upset I am that a new source of information has entered the Hudson area. This Patch outfit is honing in on our advertising revenue. This does not sit well with the powers that be. To top it off, they get to do the same thing that we do. They get to pit one citizen against another in vitriolic slanderous debate, posing as different people and never having to use their real names. I find this particularly disgusting. The editor of the Patch should be ashamed of himself, stooping as low as we do for advertising revenue. It is sad that “journalism” has turned out to be such a worthless occupation.

Ray makes a worthless attempt at trying to equate the thugs of Nazi Germany with the common sense legislation recently passed by the state legislature. Just in case Ray wasn’t (or isn’t) paying attention, the unions that the legislature are trying to rein in are the GOVERNMEN T UNIONS!
