Only in evangelical nut-job-land, aka Iowa, could a meat head the likes of Rick Santorum almost pull out a victory. This is the same holier than thou jerk-off who supported Arlen Specter, voted for massive amounts of earmarks, not to mention foreign aid up the a$$, and got his butt kicked in his last run for US Senate. There is only one reason why he was able to cobble together a 25% showing. He ran around in all of the little evangelical towns in central Iowa and pandered to the mystics there. It was actually Huckabee, part II.

So, what’s so bad about Ricky boy? Simple, Santorum denounces individualism, bastardizes the vision of America’s founding, and to top it off disassociates with any proper conceptualization of individual rights – the real and true basis of America’s founding. All the while wanting people to think his twisted theocratic vision is all part of the “founding vision” of America. This is called steps toward theocracy, make no mistake about it.

RS: “the conservative view of freedom,” “the liberty our Founders understood. . . this is freedom coupled with the responsibility to something bigger or higher than the self.” “True liberty is freedom in the service of virtue—not the freedom to be as selfish as I want to be, or the freedom to be left alone, but the freedom to attend to one’s duties—duties to God, to family, and to neighbors. . . . In the conservative vision, people are first connected to and part of families: The family, not the individual, is the fundamental unit of society.”

Such utterances are wholly incompatible with individual rights. Santorum, you are a bizarre mystic ass – please, just go away.

**This post was originally made on September 25th**

With the announcement today (12/28/2011) some 90 days later, my position is the same. However, now I am faced with supporting a Libertarian candidate. While I will not support the Libertarian party, I will support this man. Gary Johnson will be the first candidate for President of The United States (assuming he gets the L nomination) who I will vote for who is not a Republican.

When you watch the video, it might not hit you right away but it did me. Wanna know why? Because my family goes back 11 generations here in America, and we fought in the Revolutionary War, The War of 1812, The Civil War, WW1 and WW2.. so, by virtue of family heritage I consider myself as part of that 12% and take it seriously..

The balance of the candidates (Republicans) make me want to vomit, but here is a guy who I would be willing to support.

1. His position on taxes is laudable, better than the others, but not perfect.

2. His position on energy is precisely correct – his premise is that we have a supply problem, and until that gets corrected (meaning more domestic production, use of natural gas more, etc,) we ought to ride bikes more… I love that!

3. His position on legalization of certain drugs, e.g. marijuana is sane – unlike all the other candidates (except, perhaps, Ron Paul)

4. His position on immigration is sane: “America is a land of immigrants. Legal immigration should focus on making it easier and simpler for willing workers to come here with a temporary work visa, pay taxes, contribute to society, and fill jobs as the market demands.”

5. He opposes “Net Neutrality.” So do I, and for the same reasons!! “It is not a coincidence that the one element of our
modern economy that has been uniquely left free of government interference has created equally unique growth and transformation. An Internet free of regulation and taxation has produced innovation and enhancements to quality of life almost unparalleled in human history. If the market demands Internet services, speed and access, the market will provide them without any help from the government. The government, with its regulatory foot in the door, will inevitably end up attempting to regulate and referee content, speech, and commerce.”

6. Foreign Policy…. again, I agree with GJ when he states that our military needs to leave BOTH Afghanistan and Iraq. I don’t want to put words in his mouth, but from what I have read it appears he, like me, would like a far far smaller but far far more lethal military that stays close to home and is only used when we are directly and clearly threatened or attacked. Period.

Lastly (I could go on and on here), there is this quote out of the GQ article.. in reference to GJ’s attendence at Porcfest. A local public-radio guy and a local blogger ask if he would mind being interviewed, and they retreat to a smelly back hallway near the men’s room, where he answers questions about his campaign for the presidency while various revelers walk by with bongs and guns.

“A lot of people would say it’s a courageous candidate,” says the radio guy, “who would come to an event where people are walking around openly carrying weapons, there’s gay disco, there’s people smoking marijuana…”

Gary chuckles. “I wouldn’t say I’m a brave candidate for those reasons.” Another chuckle. “Those things don’t bother me at all.”

The public-interest group Judicial Watch has obtained the documents through the Freedom of Information Act from the Food and Drug Administration detailing reports of harmful reactions to the vaccination for human papillomavirus, also known as HPV.

“The adverse-reaction reports detail 26 new deaths reported between Sept. 1, 2010, and Sept. 15, 2011, as well as incidents of seizures, paralysis, blindness, pancreatitis, speech problems, short-term memory loss and Guillain-Barré Syndrome,” Judicial Watch said.

Gardasil earns Merck over 1 billion dollars profit every year.

Count me as one not running with the crowd toward the Herman Cain bandwagon. As I pointed out two weeks ago, his 999 tax plan has the folly of promising more revenue to the federal government. I admit not following the Republican Presidential nomination very closely. After perusing the news this morning, I was shocked to find out that Cain was once chairman of the Kansas City Federal Reserve. He was and by his words still are a bankster and economic interventionist.

You Ignorant Austrians

In the recent past, he has thumbed his nose at the Austrians calling for an audit of the Federal Reserve. Cain calls such people ignorant. By his own admission he never saw the current financial calamity coming. As the economy imploded, Cain became a shill for the Bush administration talking up the strength of the economy. Furthermore, he supported the bailout and cheered taxpayer funds siphoned toward Wall Street.

What Depression

Herman Cain also believes that Alan Greenspan as the best leader of the Federal Reserve over the last forty years. Greenspan is the type of person that Cain says he will appoint Chairman of the Federal Reserve if elected president.

Greenspan the Great

As Austrians long ago realized and even our earlier Presidents, central banking is the root cause of the boom-bust cycle. How can you support a candidate that not only was part of the beast, but believes it does not need to be watched over through audits? How can you support a candidate that at heart is an economic interventionist? How can you support a candidate that believes the federal government needs more money?

The bottom line is that Herman Cain is another George Bush who does not believe in free markets. In other words he is no friend of liberty.

Enough said.

Presidential hopeful Herman Cain claims that his 999 tax plan where businesses and individuals are federally taxed at a flat rate of 9% in addition to a 9% national sales tax will be revenue neutral. I am always perplexed by so-called trumpeters of limited government that want to change tax policy while at the same time ensuring the government will haul in the same or more tax receipts. Since taxes are the food for big government, how can you continue to feed the beast and expect to limit its size? This is like putting a 400 pound person on a diet by letting them eat the very things that made them fat.

In 2000 federal tax receipts amounted to nearly $1.8 trillion. The amount in 2010 exceeded $2.1 trillion, which is nearly a 17% increase over the decade. According to Mr. Cain the right size for government is bigger than it was 10, 20, 30, 40, 50 or 100 years ago. Apparently Cain and his supporters are satisfied with the level of federal intrusion in this country and around the world. What happens when the economy grows? The government brings in more tax money and increases its bureaucracy, which means even more intrusion.

This is the problem with many flat tax proposals floating around. They all premise the virtue of the various plans in that government receives more money. I would personally endorse a national sales tax plan with the preface that all other taxation is eliminated and a receipt cap is placed on the federal government plus restrict the ability of Washington D.C. to borrow money. For example, a national sales tax of 15% is placed on all goods, which allows an individual to keep all of their income up front and then decide how they want to be taxed. Once the federal coffers reach $500 billion the sales tax is suspended until the beginning of the next fiscal year.

You cannot have limited government if you do not limit the flow of funds into the Treasury or limit the amount on the credit card. Herman Cain’s math is a little conflicted along with his idea of smaller government.

Today Republican Presidential candidate Mitt Romney unveiled his 160 page job creation plan. Like most policy proposals coming from Republican political transvestites, Romney dabbles at the corners and babbles around the rest of the room. The first thing people should take away from his plan is that the former Governor of Massachusetts and author of state run healthcare belief in big government. Do you think a proposal from a defender of liberty and proponent of free markets would take 160 pages to outline a plan for government to get the hell out of the way?

On tax reform, Romney punted. Yes, I agree with him to eliminate the estate tax plus taxes on interest and dividends. But why in the case of interest and dividends implement a means test of anyone making under $200,000. He also favors keeping intact the Bush era tax cuts. A true believer in limited government would abolish any concept of a progressive tax system and argue for a means of restricting government revenues in addition to chopping the IRS completely.

Romney’s stance on regulations is pure double talk. He would eliminate regulations as an offset whenever new regulations raise business costs. Perhaps the former Governor can give an example of a law that did not increase economic costs. Why not take an ax to existing regulations.

On federal spending Romney proposes to cut non-security discretionary spending by 5%. Present discretionary spending not related to security amounts to around $491 billion out of a $3.7 trillion budget. His plan would end up cutting a whopping $24.5 billion. The budget for the Department of education is $64.3 billion; Health and Human Services rings $84 billion in spending; Department of Agriculture adds another $25 billion; and the Department gushes almost $30 billion in federal outlays. And Romney can only come up with a measly $24.5 billion in federal government spending cuts. In the words of John McEnroe, “You can’t be serious!”

Mr. Romneycare states that he will abolish Obamacare. Pretty good odds say that he will propose another type of national healthcare system in its place.

In terms of energy, Romney proposes extracting more US reserves of oil, coal, and natural gas, which means chopping the legs out from the Department of Interior and the Environmental Protection Agency in addition to the aforementioned Department of Energy, which slashes another $16 billion from the budget (does not include the Energy Department).

The one time Governor of Massachusetts also calls for a tougher trade stance with China and that country’s currency manipulation. If Mr. Romney is so concern about the currency markets, then I would suggest he look no farther than the Federal Reserve.

A plan for economic growth does not require 160 ink filled pages of unprincipled gibberish. The engine of a robust economy only needs the fuel of free markets. The plan is quite simple:

Eliminate all federal bureaucracies and spending programs not specified in the US Constitution including the immediate end to all bailouts and subsidies.

Keep our noses out of the affairs of other countries and withdrawal our military from foreign bases, plus the present conflicts they are involved.

The first three proposals basically end the need for the IRS. Funding for the remaining parts of the government can be done through a minimal flat tax or national sales tax that excludes exemption.

Abolish the Federal Reserve and tear down the building in Foggy Bottom. The history of central banks has proven once again that the institution is a cauldron of widespread economic misery.

Sever all entangling alliances including the United Nation.

Darn, I could not keep it under 100 words!

Texas governor Rick Perry’s bid for the Republican expected nomination has cheered climate sceptics who share his view that global warming is a ‘phony mess’

Perry calls global warming “all one contrived phony mess that is falling apart under its own weight.” Unlike many of the other GOP presidential candidates, he hasn’t expressed concern about climate change in the past, so he won’t have to do any back-pedaling. Notorious climate denier Marc Morano is a big fan: “Based on climate views alone, anyone who is holding their nose voting for Mitt Romney because there’s no other viable candidate will now rejoice to have an option with Rick Perry.”

On Friday the Republican controlled House of Representatives voted and rejected a resolution that would have given Obama the authority to deploy US troops in Libya. This comes after the Speaker of the House cried illegality over the operations in Libya and that the President had acted contrary to the Constitution.

In a vote taken immediately after the authorization vote, the House of Representatives voted to reject another resolution that would defund the Libyan operation.

So your against the military action, but vote to keep funding it. This is the same logic the Boehner led House used when Republicans postured against Obamacare, but still continues to fund it in the budget.

And you really think this clan is going to hold fast their opposition to raising the debt ceiling.
