There is irony here….and the irony is that the New Richmond district was able to change who they do business with, but just try doing that as a parent of a school aged child in New Richmond – you are prevented by law from engaging in the very economic choice that the district enjoys. Sorry parents, you have to pay twice if you want to take your kid someplace other than the government schools!

This is as clear of an example of the idiocy of a government monopoly as you can get. If the market for construction services worked similarly, Derrick would have received $10,000 anyway just because they exist! Maybe this is what is eating at Bill Derrick. If such looting is good enough for government education, why not his industry too?
    .
Mr. Derrick, you answered your concern yourself but you did not reach the obvious conclusion. You cannot fix a system that is inherently flawed. You argued right into my thesis that St Croix County is woefully short on non-government education and direct incentives need to be implemented to get the ball rolling…
    .
Again, where is Committee Rhoades and Sheila Harsdorf . This is outrageous and citizens need to start calling these two so-called representatives and start demanding action. There is a very real solution to all of this nonsense and it starts with the introduction of statewide universal education tax credits.

Bill Derrick’s letter is the aftermath of the failed referendum. The board had no plans for the failed referendum. It’s was for our kids you know–how could it possibly fail. No thought was put into housing the students for another year. People are just starting to wake up on school board incompetence. They’re focusing on issues that can be seen and not seeing the real problem– the teacher’s union.

I had a friend who ran for the school board and lost. He got a call from the head of the NR teacher’s union and was told that they endorsed three of the winning candidates, but the next election, they would back him. They would be in for a big prize if he ever runs and wins.

We need November elections. The April one is usually ignored by the public, but the teachers are motivated by the union. With the last race in Hudson so close, there is a good chance the next election could be a winner for a new candidates. Best of luck.
