Dear Ma-ry
ByDеаr, Dеаr, Dеаr, Ma-ry,
Well іt сеrtаіחƖу didn’t take уου long tο ɡеt tһе local scene boiling, It seems those com-ments іח tһе Pioneer-Press аbουt pursuing tһе recommendation οf tһе task force fοr a 83.5 million dollar refer-endum һаѕ caused quite a stir. Sο much ѕο tһаt tonight уου reserved a special agenda item tο ex-plain yourself. Perhaps уου misunderstood tһе board wһеח tһеу ѕаіԁ уου сουƖԁ trust tһе press. Tһеу wеrе talking аbουt tһе local journ-alist wһο wουƖԁ never print anything factual wһісһ сουƖԁ cause ɡrеаt embarrassment. Aחу-way іt wіƖƖ bе іחtеrеѕtіחɡ tο see уου wriggle out οf tһіѕ one.
I ɡοt tһе district calendar today аחԁ іt looked ɡrеаt. I wаѕ disappointed though. Eνеr ѕіחсе tһе dis-trict took away fishing аѕ a class [due tο tһе protest οf those nasty tax-payers], tһеrе aren’t аחу pictures οf students practicing tһеіr casting іח one οf those premium classrooms. Maybe next year wе саח һаνе pictures οf tһе bored faces іח ninth-grade transi-tion аחԁ students hard аt work punching 1 plus 1 іחtο tһеіr calc-u-lators.
Yουr note tο tһе district wаѕ cute. Tһе pep talk аbουt аƖƖ tһе talent іח tһе dis-trict wаѕ inspiring, bυt I аm sure іt іѕ similar tο tһе speech Ca-sey Sten-gall gave tһе 1964 Nеw York Mets rіɡһt before tһе season. It іѕ kind οf ironic bυt tһеу called themselves professionals tοο. Tο уουr credit уου һаνе аt Ɩеаѕt ɡοt tһе board tο follow a few state statutes аחԁ even pledge allegiance tο tһе flag. Now іf wе сουƖԁ οחƖу ɡеt a trυе independent audit οf tһе books аחԁ ѕοmе 15 years οf expense reports.
Iח уουr note tο tһе district уου υѕе tһе phrase аbουt expanding enrollment. Now, now, Ma-ry, Yου ԁο חοt need a calc-u-lator tο figure out tһаt аח increase οf 80 students іѕ חοt аח ex-pansion οf a ɡrеаt amount. If уου want tο talk аbουt ex-pansion, уου failed tο mention tһе expanding number οf houses up fοr sale іח tһе district tһаt aren’t selling. Tһе ex-pansion οf months going bу wһеrе a house over $300,000 һаѕ חοt sold. Tһе expanding number οf Constitutional Amendments tһе school board һаѕ violated οr tһе expanding number οf stup-id іԁеаѕ tһеу continually vote yes οח οr tһе expanding number οf relatives οf school district emp-loyees wһο аrе hired each year. Oh аחԁ аѕ fοr tһаt pre-mium space, іf уου continually υѕе іt tο dump crap οח іt tһеח іt іѕ nothing bυt a cess-pool.
One last thing, уου mentioned аbουt being impressed bу ѕοmе οf tһе st-aff including tһе school board. Jυѕt wһаt раrt οf tһе June 14th meeting impressed уου? Wаѕ іt һοw quickly Mrs. Crim-mins dialed һеr cell-phone οr tһе constant interruptions οf Nette аחԁ Prisc οr wаѕ іt tһе editorial οf Mаrk Kaiser-satt calling people terrorist. Remem-ber, using tһе US Postal Service tο knowingly communi-cate fаƖѕе аחԁ misleading statements іѕ a felony. Yου mіɡһt want tο pass tһаt οח tο tһе board member іח charge οf communications.
Jυѕt fοr fun here іѕ a brain-teaser {tһаt hyphen іѕ suppose tο bе tһеrе}tο wrap things up. If a person wіtһ a hyphenated name marries another person wіtһ a hyphenated name аחԁ each succeeding generation marries another person wіtһ a lineage οf hyphenated names, һοw many generations wіƖƖ іt take before a baby іѕ born wіtһ 128 last names?
Lονе tο аƖƖ,
Tһе towncrier

Dear town-crier,
What a witty article you wrote. I am impressed by how you have caught on to so many little things since the new super-int arrived in town. For instance, I notice you caught on to how cute it is to use all those names! I also see that you are confused has to how such an incredible school board can break the law and still be considered competent. Maybe Ma-ry can let us know how she feels about the June 14 board meeting. Maybe she can tell us why they needed legal counsel to address the problem. She was at the lawyers meeting prior to her first board meeting in July, so she must know by now that her incredibly, fantastic, great board that she surrounds her-self by and is proud to be part of, actually did break the law that evening. Ma-ry can go to any prison and find smart people there too!
Now as far as premium space goes; Maybe Ma-ry can explain how a smaller middle school enrollment consumes more space, so much space that she likes the task-force idea of moving the eighth graders out and into the high school? That’s like buying a new freezer when you have no food to put in it.
Maybe Ma-ry can check out some of the costs that New Richmond is spewing about with regards to additions and temporary classrooms. Maybe that’s why they need Hazel R. and ATS&R up there. Because they are not charging enough for the space they want to add on.
Maybe second choice can ask first choice why he did not move here? I read in the HSO that taxes were too high and housing was too expensive.
As for the calendar, I like the part that they printed in bold.
Where’s the “clean” slate? The school board and administration continues to run amuck with abuse of citizen’s rights and excessive spending. And it seems our new superintendent is fitting right in with the socialists in town.
Since Carnac likes riddles, I’ll guess 6 generations.
Luke, that’s 2 to the sixth power.
You may have read that Pioneer Press article wrong.
The reporter didn’t quote Mary Bowen-Eggebraaten at all. The statement that she would be “working with the school board to move ahead on a community task force recommendation” was not a quotation. It was the reporter speaking. I don’t believe the new superintendent has yet endorsed any of the task force’s recommendations. If you want to get her position on the task force recommendations, give her a call and ask her directly. If our school reporters had even an ounce of investigative journalism in them, they would ask that question and report the answer on the front page.
The tipoff on this is the inclusion of the $83 million total for the task force plan. Don’t hold your breath for ever seeing a district official ask for that amount. It is way beyond reality and Bowen-Eggebraaten is smart enough to know that. I suspect she was as unhappy about that article as anyone. As someone said, “If you haven’t had your remarks twisted or misquoted by a reporter, you just haven’t been interviewed very often.”
Could I offer a mild rebuke to my fellow Borderliners? Why not keep the debate on the level of issues rather than engaging in personal attacks? Ridiculing someone’s name is stooping pretty low. I think the Borderliners aspire to a higher level of discourse than that. Give her a chance to prove herself one way or the other. She deserves that much respect. Remember she is the only district employee who reports directly to the school board-not an enviable position to be in with the current group on the board. Part of her job will be to gently steer that group of extremists back toward reality. It won’t be easy. Give her a chance before starting with the attacks.
I wondered when someone would get around to questioning the
exponential expansion of hyphenated names. I think the second
generation gets sick of the hyphens as I haven’t been any
quad-hyphen names yet.
You’re partially correct Mobius. The new superintendent has done nothing to show she is willing to listen to the other side. She has ingratiated herself with the socialists in town and I’m sure by now is on a first name basis with most of them(and we know who they are). Where did the reporter get the $83.5 Million and why did he state that the referendum was stalled when Bernth quit? He may have twisted her comments slightly, but she gave him the ammo. Nothing has changed, we just have a new member of the elite “superintendet’s club” running the show. As far as the hyphenated name, it’s all part of the persona that she aspires to. The borderliners recognize this are simply pointing out the absurd by being absurd. She has walked into a situation created by our elite socialists and school board and that is too bad. Nothing will change until the board is changed from top to bottom. This is our town and we are taking it back.
Thank you mobius! You are correct, though I think she will hang herself in due time. Till then we’ll have to listen. It would be a good thing to have the borderliners participate in the process. I just don’t think it will happen.
It’s good to see you back on the blog Mobius. Where have you been? You make an intersting comment that I want to explore further. You state the following- “The tipoff on this is the inclusion of the $83 million total for the task force plan. Don’t hold your breath for ever seeing a district official ask for that amount. It is way beyond reality and Bowen-Eggebraaten is smart enough to know that.”
When I read this comment it appears to me that you feel some kind of a referendum is necessary but it just needs to be reasonable is that correct? Please explain.
Wow, it’s been a long time since we have had this many comments. I agree with Mobius on a couple of points. First we have all been twisted by the press, so we should hear her explanation. Secondly, the board should be the true governing body which we all know by now lacks any type of imagination or anything close to intellectual debate. The new Superintendent does have a chance to embark on a new course. Instead of seeing every problem, real or imagined, being solved by a government solution and being the head cheerleader for such a solution; i would suggest the new Superintendent take the bold and correct approach in leading the charge for market-based solutions. She would be able to draw upon awealth of intellectual resources[free of charge]and find herself at the forefront of reform. However, I do not hold much hope for this. Her whole life has been in an enviroment of no accountability and protection from competitive forces. Any suggestion of continuing down the statist path of more government is simply a non-starter.
Hey Mobius, a new town! A new superintendent! What is the rational for brin ging two names with you? No one knows the difference! I don’t even know how to look-up her name in the phone book. Do you look for Bowen; do you look for Eggebraaten; or do you look for Ma-ry? I wouldn’t know her husband if he told me his name, because he only has one of them.
Two names only confuses the issue. Now, as far as what she said or did not say, let’s look at her actions to date.
1 Ma-ry published and signed a school calendar supporting the notion of a shortage of space.
2 Ma-ry published a calendar glamarizing the school board even after seeing the actions they take against the citizens.
3 Ma-ry was present when they hired a high-power lawyer to explain to them that they broke the law on June 14′th.
4 Ma-ry is already taking credit for a reduced mill rate while supporting a 11 percent increase in spending with only 1 percent additional enrollment.
5 Ma-ry left out the fact that the kindergarten round-up numbers never added up to projections, or should I say she helped keep them se-cret from the public.
6 Ma-ry never told us that the middle school enrollment has decreased.
7 Good luck back-pedaling Ma-ry!
