[...] Ontheborderline summarizes the plan for us: Briefly some of the highlights of his Flat Tax plan would be: [...]
I have been interested in the flat tax since Steve Forbres first proposed it.
This goes back some 15 years. I wrote to him about making it an alternate tax
to the current mish-mash of 30,000 pages of the internal revenue code. Here’s why.
In his promotion, Steve Forbes gave out a post card size form showing how simple it was
to prepare the tax. I gave it to several people at work and the first thing they asked was,
‘Is there a mortgage deduction?’ When I said no they weren’t interested.
I contend that unless it is made an alternate to the present tax code, it won’t sell.
Couple that with the politician’s penchant for social engineering with the tax code
and it’s an uphill battle. I would love a flat tax.
Obviously looking at all the additional revenue this would bring in, it looks to me like Forbes is advocating a tax increase! Well, no thank you, I’ve had enough of those.
How can a person named “taxmemore” be against a tax increase? Come on now, suck it up and pay! A tax increase is either for the elderly or for the children, don’t you know?
I happen to have a name like that too, but I’m not interested in one of these new revenue generators either.
Actually, we could solve this whole tax increase thing if Forbes would just get on board and call it a Flat Fee!
It seems in order to placate the pro-government can do anything crowd, all ideas on tax reform include a trailer that promises to generate more revenues for the government. I totally endorse any plan that removes politics and class-warfare from the equation. However there needs to be a cap on revenues generated or we are right back to the present with the expansion of government. For every inch government expands, individual liberties are decreased by the yard.
