Wһаt аbουt raising entrance requirements fοr Colleges? CουƖԁ wе һаνе interim “College Preparatory” types οf Private schools, fοr students tһаt ԁο חοt meet those requirements, аftеr tһеу graduate frοm High School ? Hοw much money іѕ spent іח tһе ‘College Systems’ throughout tһе country οח ‘remedial’ reading, math аחԁ things tһаt ѕһουƖԁ bе taught іח High School? Wһаt іѕ a рƖаח tο raise tһе expectations οf tο higher standards fοr today’s model οf education besides ‘more’ money аחԁ smaller class sizes, more teachers, etc… Wһаt аbουt requiring teachers tο һаνе majored іח tһе subjects tһеу teach? Wһаt аbουt trimming fluff courses? Wһаt аbουt requiring more homework? Wһаt аbουt self paced curriculum? Wһаt аbουt using technology better? Wһаt аbουt phonics? Wһеrе ԁο уου stand?

    There is one and only one answer – get rid of the monopoly. If this had been done 10 years ago, we would not be having any of these discussions – nor would there be a looming referendum here in Hudson..

    This idea that all of a sudden we need higher standards for our publicly funded high schools is beyond the pale. These self appointed mind guards see the writing on the wall, and it says – GIVE US OUR MONEY BACK AND LET US MOVE OUR KIDS TO PRIVATE SCHOOLS AND TO HOME SCHOOL.

    Doyle is one of the pack of pathetic chess players who seems to think adding a third year of math and science will silence the “anti- education” crowd.. This guy is so bereft of logic it is increadible. Then you have press releases such as I received yesterday from the office of my State Senator – crowing about a tax freeze. As if this is some great solution.. Not a mention that what a tax freeze on property taxes really means – a shift in the tax burden from property tax to something and or some other sucker.

    Folks, don’t be fooled by these big government politicians because they all have one goal – maintain the state. Our job has to be the reduction in the size and scope of the state. We can take a great step forward for all by removing the monopoly and allowing parents to choose based not upon mandates, but real market driven standards…

    Until and unless we see governors advocating for the elimination of the monopoly, all their platitudes will fall on deaf ears amongst those of us who know that the only solution is to open education up to the market – anything short of that is simply a shell game in which the real losers are parents, taxpayers and students.

    In closing, just ask yourself who stands to benefit by the proposals coming forth? Taxpayers and parents OR Teachers, Teachers Unions, and the Government Education Establishment?

    tax man, because I support public education it means that I am a spokesman for the teacher’s union? I don’t get it? At least you are coming out of your shell a little and truly stating that you could care less what happens to those “inner city kids”, just don’t let them move into your community right?
