He Fought the Good Fight
ByJames Baker, Hudson School Board candidate, stayed the course. In spite of personal attacks waged against him by the teacher’s union, Baker is to be credited with staying on message and not resorting to dumbing down his campaign. Baker has been consistent in each of the three elections in which he ran, standing for open meetings, making school information (including monthly expenditures) available to residents free of charge, and balancing any referendum proposals with attention to all taxpayers.
The Hudson School District has a history of violating the open meeting laws, charging citizens unreasonable amounts to obtain monthly reports (while making the reports free to some and charging others), and treating taxpayers with disrespect. Although Baker’s message hasn’t changed, his supporters have. His first year running, he was supported by Bob Bauman (a union activist) and newly elected school boarder Traci Ahlin. Both discontinued their endorsements after deciding they disagreed with Baker’s message.
James Baker, an attorney who holds PhD in chemical engineering, simply was dead on target when it came to the teacher’s union. His sincerity and refusal to play political games was not only a great asset, but ran contrary to the union tactics. Although the best revenge in the face of brutal personal attacks is to win the election, perhaps knowing that you stayed the course and demonstrated strength where most of us would be vulnerable is enough. Well over 1,000 people agreed with you. That’s enough for this voter. Stand tall, Jim.

If they had to personally attack him, they must be afraid. Very, very afraid.
Jim,
It’s a privelage to congratulate you on your honor.
