If you choose not to decide, Have you still made a choice?

By

Not to choose is still making a choice. We have all heard the words by the band, RUSH. It goes:

If you choose not to decide
You still have made a choice

These lyrics are dismissing a logical conscience decision not to choose. The Hudson School Board race really only has two choices. In the newspaper editorials, the school board forum, as well as analysis here OnTheBorderLine, I have come to the conclusion that there is only one logical choice. I agree with the previous poster that what is imperative before anything will ever occur here in Hudson is to regain the trust of the public. So let’s take my cursory look at the candidates and see how they fit into regaining the trust of the taxpayers who they are supposed to represent.BakerSign3 If you choose not to decide, Have you still made a choice?

I did hear Brian Bell advocate for transparency by putting the accounting system online for everyone. With the technology budget already in place as wells as the software tools available this is easily done. The only reason it is not right now is that it is a conscience decision by the board to thwart this potential transparency. However, I also heard him advocate for dusting off the biased Facilities Task Force recommendations and going forward. Now I’m all for that, but for a different reason. I want it to go forward just to show them it will fail. His intentions are to build, spend, grow, etc… For this reason he is a definite ‘No’.

Another obvious ‘No’ is Pricilla Wyeth. I don’t think she has ever voted no on anything. She votes hook line and sinker for the union heads. Another consideration is her appearance of arrogance. Her demeanor rubs not only the public wrong but more than likely her cohorts on the board as well as the potential members of the board which was obvious in the forum. She represents the status quo which severely needs to change.

Holland is well known but presents what I consider to be a conflict of interest. Anyone have the figures of how much money flows through the YMCA that originates from the district, including the daycare? He has not presented any new ideas and it seems to me would just be representing the status quo. He also made a claim that was easily refuted about his property taxes at the forum. Was this being cunning or ignorant? Either way those are characteristics that are not needed. Another ‘No’.

Habisch-Ahlin another Facilities Task Force member also knows whose as* to kiss. She will follow the union lock stock and barrel. (Did I use that term already?) She appeared well oiled at the forum thanks to the shenanigans by her supporters, LWV, and parents group. She knew what questions were coming and even had her answers, that she read so eloquently, numbered! She appears to be hungry for power. Another ‘No’.

David Hadlich seems to be a moderate that has commented here on this blog. No other candidate has. Thank you. He apparently is someone who is not afraid of what people think. I like that. I’m not sure this quality is exhibited by any of the individuals mentioned above. But as a moderate I feel that he is trying to satisfy both sides of the over-spending debate. I admire someone who stands for something. Sorry David, another ‘No’.

That leaves James Baker. Does he have ideas? Yes. Does he agree with the status quo? No. Does he think there needs to be changes in curriculum? Yes. Does he want transparency? Yes. Is he an intelligent man? Yes. Does the board need him? Yes. Does Hudson need him? Terribly! Will he abdicate to special interests? Never. Does he expect better? Of course. Remember, the local tax levy has grown over 82% while student growth has grown only 22%. Where is this money going? Any investigation into the budget only leads to dead ends, exorbitant amounts of money, along with obstruction at every step. The citizens of Hudson are sick of the status quo. There are 4-5 candidates who strongly represent the status quo. If you want to restore the ownership of the school board where it belongs, the citizens of Hudson, not the status quo of the union, then you need to VOTE 4 Baker ONLY!. Voting Baker only will send a message to the board. After all there is really only one choice.
