Kudos, Senator Harsdorf

By

In the past we certainly have not been shy about calling our local representatives on the carpet for positions which we consider the antithesis of limited government and liberty. Likewise, we need to acknowledge them when they speak out in defense of individual rights.

Private property rights are the cornerstone of our society,” said Sen. Sheila Harsdorf, R-River Falls, a sponsor of the bill. see story

You are absolutely correct Senator Harsdorf. The foundations of liberty and thus capitalism rest on the right to private property. However, this principle does not only apply to a personal dwelling on a plot of land; it must also apply to business as well.

In order to efficiently satisfy the demands of the consumer, entrepreneurs must be able to freely control the processes which are required to produce a product. Therefore content [safe for life and property] and pricing remain the private property of the entrepreneur. In the end it is the consumer who will render final judgment as to whether the entrepreneur – control of resources was satisfactory or not. It is through this uninhibited process where history has recorded the advancement of mankind. The historical garbage dump is amply filled with examples, from price controls to communism, of what happens when the right of private property is denied to those who produce goods and services.

I missed the news report on private property rights. Glad to see Senator Harsdorf backing this bill.

Now the problem is Gov Doyle whose veto pen is on automatic. As I understand it, Doyle can veto this bill and send it back to the legislature for a second veto proof vote that will make make it law.

There must be something in this bill that the unions don’t like.
