The minimum qualifications for the presidency of the United States are specified in Article II of the U.S. Constitution.

The “natural-born citizen” requirement is not spelled out in the Constitution – there is no definition of a natural-born citizen, per se. However, the Fourteenth Amendment has some clarification on what qualifies one for natural-born citizenship. There are factors to consider such as where the person was born, when, where he lived, and the nationalities of his parents.

“Some of these factors might seemingly come into play in the case of (presumptive) Democratic presidential nominee Barack Obama. Although his mother was herself a natural-born U.S. citizen, his father was a Kenyan national, and his parents may or may not have been legally married in the eyes of U.S. law. Moreover, his parents split up when he was but a toddler, and his mother soon afterwards married another foreign national and moved with Barack to Indonesia. (Snopes)”

The question of Obama’s qualification as a natural-born citizen relative to the status of his mother would be a legitimate issue based on the law in effect at the time he was born provided Obama was not born within U.S. Territory. Obama was born in Hawaii, consequently those provisions simply do not apply in this case..

The Fourteenth Amendment states that “all persons born or naturalized in the United States, and subject to the jurisdiction thereof, are citizens of the United States.”

Obama is a natural-born citizen because Hawaii (the place of his birth) was a state at the time.

While he may, in fact, be a “natural-born citizen” he certainly lacks any semblance of having the vision of this country’s founding imprinted upon him… He is and will remain the Obamination.
