Friends of the NEA
ByThere’s a new group in town called “Friends of the NEA”. It’s hard to tell them apart from the hardworking average taxpayer, but when they write to the Hudson Star Observer it’s all too apparent that they are a member of this group. What is “Friends of the NEA” you say? Well let us explain.
“Friends of the NEA” encompasses a wide range of folks, but for the most part these individuals benefit financially from the National Education Association and it’s local unions like the one in Wisconsin called WEAC. The list is very long, but here are a few examples of these people-
Teacher’s Spouses (the worst offenders)
Teacher’s Parents
Retired Teachers
Then there is a huge sub-group of people who are local business people that benefit financially as well. Many of these people are members of the Republican Party, worked and voted for President Bush, but have an allegiance to the NEA due to financial ties to our district. These people would include, but not be limited to-
Bankers
Doctors
Lawyers
Psychiatrists
Dentists
Optometrists
Insurance Companies
Construction Companies
Excavating Companies
Architectural Firms
Don’t get us wrong, many of these people secretly think that the district spends way too much money and is obnoxiously inefficient. They are sometimes forced to throw their morals and principles out the window for financial expediency.
Our plan is to expose these people when they write letters to the Hudson Star Observer and indicate to the average reader just exactly what their hidden agenda is. This week we had two “Friends of the NEA” write in- Bob Baumann and Butch Schultz. In the upcoming days we will examine the half-truths that they expound and enlighten the unsuspecting public. And that’s Our View.

The above article is strikingly similar to what has been going on in Baraboo with an organization called “PASS” – People Acting in Support of Students (It should really be called PAST – People Acting in Support of Teachers). We have the same issue in Baraboo and the same caliber of people with “selective disclosure” of the truth about what is happening in our schools. Our group has successfully defeated two referenda (4/06 and 9/06) for the school district to exceed revenue caps by $1.5 million per year for the next five years – and nothing solid to spend the money on. They have been blank check requests from the community. We have faced numerous personal attacks in the local fishwrap (www.wiscnews.com/bnr/) and the paper was on the side favoring the referendum. Through it all, the truth came out (it’s a good thing my friends and I are thick-skinned!) and the referendums failed. We have a website (http://www.baraboocffr.com) and kept ALL communications to the media fact-related and sourceable. The other side was only loaded with hot air, personal attacks, and complaints, no solutions.
