Queen of the Gypsies
ByIsn’t it amazing to watch the board become so memorized when Gypsy Queen Hazel does the razzle-dazzle with her traveling crystal ball. “What’s this”, she exclaims, “why I see the letters A,T, S, and an R written in the sky above Hudson”. “And there I see lots of buildings, school buildings on every corner; it’s like they are popping up like weeds.” “What else do you see Swami Hazel?” shrieks Prissy. “Yes tell us more!” a tearful Dick Muenich cries. “Put the cell phone down, Cream-Puff”, admonishes Frau Cook, “these are good things to see and hear.” The Gypsy looks up from her crystal ball and smiles, “I see a number, it is followed by many zeroes. I see myself strolling along the beach followed by seven sheep bleating, “It’s for the kids; it’s for the kids.”
Sitting silently is board member and real estate mogul, Mark Kaisser-rat. He knows the truth about Hudson’s growth; and the bleak numbers for new home construction and existing home sales. He knows the pain of spending weekends all alone at another open house where the only person to show is the mailman. How ironic for a man who was so prolific in attacking taxpayers in the paper six months ago and hinting that some may actually be terrorists, is now sitting in awkward silence unable to release the vile truth.
Here is what they won’t tell you: Since the year 2000 when 70% of listed homes were sold [1232 listed???????872 sold], the ratio has been dropping like a rock. In 2004, 2855 homes were listed and only 1573 were sold for a ratio of 55%. For the nine months of ???????05, we have 2427 homes listed and only 1245 sold [ratio is 51%]. As a matter of fact, total home sales are on track to be the lowest in three years in St.Croix County. Funny how, Gypsy Hazel’s crystal ball always fogs up when it comes to the image of a cemetery with row upon row of “For Sale” signs where the epitaphs is written, “Price Reduced” or “For Rent”.
Gypsy Queen Hazel hastily packs her things and heads north, where another board anxiously awaits to be mystified.

Didn’t you mean to say she was heading off into the sunset?? Or maybe it was off to Somerset??!!!
Very good there Kilo…..
“there she goes, heading off into the somerset!”
Just finished studying the student projections for New Richmond for the next 11 years. I went through it twice to find something on the impact of a new St Croix River Bridge–nothing. Finished my first drive over the new portions of hwy 64 to Stillwater. Somehow or other Somerset was gone. It took me 15 minutes to go from NR to Stillwater. No stoplight and no 25 mph zone.
I expect longer delays on the bridge as truckers realize that they can save time going through Stillwater into Wisconsin.
And we don’t even have a new bridge yet.
P. S. Reinhardt has already come to New Richmond. Hope she can find Somerset on the way back to MN.
