Keep in mind that the majority of the kids that come to the U.S. as exchange students receive no academic credit for being here, and will complete their remaining schooling when return home. In some cases, they have already graduated from high school. Most of them are far ahead of U.S. students, so they have very little challenge outside of the language. With no need to get good grades, they can afford to be lazy and bask in the local culture.

I have spoken to a few exchange students at school and all of them have mentioned how much easier school in America is. One thought our “bubblesheet” tests were great! He said they would never have anything like that in his country for a test. Their’s were always essay tests…several pages. They also have to address teachers and upper classmen respectfully (“m’am” and “sir”). They also mentioned that kids behave much more mature and respectfully at school. All things that prepare kids for the future very well if you ask me. Makes me worry alot for the future of our country and our kids….these countrie’s kids are going to be better educated and present a much more respectable presence in the future, at this rate.

The only students in the U.S. that are respectful enough to call people “ma’am” and “sir” come out of 2 school systems, private and home-schooled. Both of these systems turn out consistently higher achievers than the lowest-common-denominator public schools. Why is is that the worst school system has the highest-paid teachers?

Personally, I don’t completely blame the teachers. Many of the good teachers that do exist are handicapped by poor administrations. The good teachers are forced to teach curriculum created by people that have lots of theories, but have never taught school. They think they know what is best for a classroom of kids that they have never even seen.

Also ask our exchange students how they start their school days.
It starts out with singing National Anthems or pledges & a PRAYER. Stricter rules & enforced behavior, uniforms; Hmm, I see a pattern forming.
Respect has been lost by all in our society & not just the schools. Private schools & home schools teach proper behavior. Ask my children what would happen to them if they were disrespectful to an adult; theyâ??d tell you that they fear the outcome. I know that I did too when I was a child.
Discipline is key in training any living creature, including kids; in school & at home.
