Dennis Prager: Internet Anonymity Is as Destructive as Internet Porn

There is something that could at least be as awful as pornography — and arguably more destructive — that permeates the Internet: the lies, vitriol, obscenities and ad hominem attacks made by anonymous individuals on almost every website that deals with public issues.

Hey, I didn’t say it; Dennis Prager did.

So, Mr Ziller, I put a name to some words on a blog. Now obviously my name really could be George Washington. Look in the phone book. Milwaukee has over 48 of them. Would this pass your muster? And how do I know your really Bob Ziller? Looks as if there are a few spread across the state. Which one are you?

  2. Chris says:

Thank you George. Here is a post a few years back when I was admin called “10 Reasons for Anonymity OnTheBorderLine“.

  3. BobZiller says:

Now I can add another attribute to anonymous bloggers – lying.

I’m not buying the ten reasons to be anonymous.
The Pierce County Herald phones to verify that I was the individual who wrote a letter to the editor.

I’ve taken my share of vitriol from anonymous letters on my stands on unions (especially teacher’s unions) and Democrats. I’ve taken heat from my teacher son and my wife. No wonder so few people run for public office. The post on Kitty Rhoades proves my point. She votes to spend a nickel more and she’s labeled a communist

My name, address, and phone number are in the phone book and if you care to drive to my house, I can give you a photo ID, an electric bill, and a certified copy of my birth certificate.

  4. Chris says:

So you [emphasis added] get to control the content of the Herald? I smell a conspiracy here. When did you send in an op-ed and they printed it? Oh, you only send in editorials. You don’t get to send in your OWN articles. Don’t you understand that responses via editorials are simply letting the papers control the topics and agenda. They never stray from their agendas anyways. So what in effect you are implying that if a topic is not even brought up [remember the agenda thing Bob], it is not important enough to respond to, or topical anyway. Then what your advocating for is to be a “follower”, Bob.

I’ve always given you the benefit of doubt and understand that your position in New Richmond is first that of a husband and father. Your endorsement of the $93 Million dollar boondoggle was because of your son, who is employed in the the district and your wife, who wears pants in the family as well. I can understand that. But don’t pretend your conservative. You can’t have it both ways. You can’t walk the fence. As for me Bob, I hope you don’t represent any of the GOP here in St. Croix County anymore, because that isn’t what I signed on for. Then you’d be saying that the GOP is not conservative, well at least shouldn’t strive for it. I want leaders, not followers.

And Bob, I thought George Washington could not tell a lie.

    To #4 commenter:

After reading #1 commenter, I beginning to feel that names mean nothing so it might be best to refer to comments by number.

I don’t have control over the Pierce County Herald. I only write letters to the editor. The editor decides which ones to publish.

Ironic isn’t it? I, too, thought G Washington, the first POTUS, could not tell a lie. How many phony G Washingtons do we have to put up with on this blog?

Since some people use aliases, multiple aliases, and cutsy CB handles or have handles for groups, why doesn’t this blog go one step further into anonymity and assign numbers to everyone when the sign up.

But then that’s probably no fun.

This is George Washington #78895. Over to you Commenter #4
