Reaping What They Have Sown

By

Today more details concerning the student protest last week at the Hudson High School which involved approximately sixty students have become available. Whatever the facts are behind this fiasco, the media is almost certain to miss the deeper and more disturbing element of this story. As has been surmised, it appears an adult is indeed behind last week’s protests. According to details released today, apparently the sick girl’s mother handed out the surgical masks to her daughter’s fellow classmates as a sign of protest over the family’s battle with the School District.

The real concern of this story is not about the air-quality or the suspensions which were meted out; the disturbing part of all this is the continued practice of adults preying on na??ve children to push their agendas. Whether the issue concerns gay marriage, building referendums, political candidates, aids, or even cystic fibrosis, the one thing you can count on is pictures of children out in front of the adults holding colorful signs. These pictures, to be perfectly blunt, remind one of the pictures we see from Cuba, China, North Korea, and those not too long ago of Eastern Europe where children in bright uniforms carry banners proclaiming the greatness of their leaders or the socialist system. It has been said that under socialism men become the tools of other men; it is just as correct to state that under collectivism children become the tools of adult leaders.

Children are very convenient when pressing forward one’s views or agenda. Most adults know it is irrational to engage a child in debate for several reasons. For one, the adult will always be depicted as the bully regardless of the merits of the argument; and secondly most adults realize that a child lacks basic worldly knowledge and therefore the debate would boil down to emotional irrelevance. Either way the adult is in a no-win situation. However when children are used as a political tool, it truly illuminates the shallowness of the promoting adult’s position. It is an act of desperation!

Though I support the actions of the School District this past week, it is seeds that they have sown. The School District has constantly paraded students in public to promote their causes for more money. Most disgusting has been their unashamed use of special needs and disabled students. In October the School Board and Administration applauded students who had picketed in front of the high school rallying for a new school. Today you applaud; tomorrow you are appalled.

The fact is students, even those who are about to graduate, bring very little useful knowledge to the table. These children have not even spent a penny of their labors supporting themselves, let alone a family. They have not had to spend one, waking moment thinking about mortgages, cars, groceries, aging parents, and driving children from activity to activity, multi-million dollar projects at work, layoffs, or taxes. So when that young man stood in front of the school board protesting for a new high school and challenging adults to spend a day in his life, I say gladly!

Excellent commentary Dr. Spirit. This is exactly what Lori Bernard was referring to in her letter of two weeks ago in the Hudson High School Star Observer. How ironic that just a week later the seeds that were sown sprouted into a full blown protest. The school board and administration have been asking for this for quite some time. They have used the children at every turn. Just look at all the bright yellow signs- “It’s For the Children”.

What the liberals don’t understand is that you can’t turn the protesters “on” and “off” on demand like pay per view t.v. Once they empower the children and promote the fact that it’s not the adults that are actually in charge, then the cat is already out of the bag. People like Roy Sjoberg find it humorous to buy t-shirts supporting certain school board candidates and have the children wear them to school. They’re also enamored with having the kiddies walk with them in support of gay marriage. And of course the October school board meeting was the culmination of this behavior as the boy with two last names received a resounding ovation from the board, administration, and other liberals present in the audience.

As I stated, the cat is out of the bag. It is great to see the children turning on the liberals who have liberated them from the rule of adults. It was great to see high school principal Ed Lucas trying to find the right words to use in that t.v. Interview and future protests will be even more fun to watch. Let’s see- we need wider parking stalls, removal of all speed bumps, beer for lunch, etc., etc., etc. I say that the responsible adults, who have cautioned of such behavior, should help the kiddies lead the charge. In fact I will be down at the high school tomorrow with a bulldozer to demolish that evil building!

Let me get this straight. We have a mother who is knowingly sending her daughter, who has a medically diagnosed potentially life-threatening disease, into what she thinks is a “known” potentially life-ending environment for her daughter. Has anyone called social services? Where’s the cry of Child Neglect, Child Abuse? Where’s the accountability and responsibility of this parent?
