Rumors of a Recall
ByWe hear the Vote Yes NR Gang and Raise Your Property Taxes Crowd are plotting a recall of certain School Board Members. Members of the gang have been giggling about how they hope to launch the recall soon.
Unless they plan on recalling Chris Skogland for repeatedly voting to put taxpayer funds in her husband’s pocket at Skogland Oil we wonder the legitimacy of such an effort.
The recall method is a key component of a democracy we are pleased Wisconsin statutes provide for.
However, asking voters to come out for a recall election has tremendous risks too. Asking voters to recall Board members who share public information with the public will backfire. Asking voters to recall Board members who favor open proceedings of the Board will fail. Asking voters to recall Board members who advocate for fiscally responsible operations of the District will boomerang. Asking voters to recall Board members who oppose unnecessary and expensive referendums that will raise homeowners’ property taxes will defeat any future efforts for a referendum. Asking voters for a special recall election a couple of months before a regular election has no logic.
Who are they going to attempt to recall? Brennan? He is up for releection in early 07. Remington? The Lieffort and Munson letters this past week indicate their hatred for her. She is the top vote getter in all School Board elections. Sievert and Hinz? They were just elected and haven’t served but 4 months.
If they do go forward however, the choice will be clear.
Those advocating for a recall are the same who want to raise your property taxes, keep School Board proceedings in secret and deny any Board member his or her First Amendment rights to share public information with the public. Those advocating for a recall care more about sports complexes than thay do the horrible test scores of the 8th grade and 10th grade students.
If Vote Yes is so blinded by their emotional and irrational hatred for honest elected members of the Board, we encourage them to bring the recall effort forward. It will be an enlightening process and we relish the opportunity to point out to the community the anger and hatred of those who are so frustrated by the majority of the voters in the past several elections.
Such an action will guarantee that the same voters who are offended by the School Board foolishness will never, ever, agree to give the District one additional dime.

Recall? More money down the rat hole. Let’s say they have a recall; then vote on the new candidates. The school board pays for the special election or more likely they appoint a citizen to fill the position until the April 2007 election.
It’s a waste of time and effort. Recallers, get your candidate and have him sign up by the January 2007 deadline.
Sorry Z – Common sense doesn’t register with irrational and emotional zealots. Look at the letters n this week’s paper
The party is getting wild. It is only rumors, but obvious that Andy Liefort is out for blood. His long boring letters to editor speaks loudly that he will a canidate for next election, heaven forbid. The voters are not stupid, they voted him down last time and will again. His record will speak for itsself.
If recallers are pushing for Andy, it not only money down the rat hole, but will drown the rat.
