The Temperature Water Freezes

By

I saw this story about the DNR warning about unsafe conditions on the ice. It took a while then it finally hit me see story; has society been dumb-downed to the point where we need to pay some bureaucrat hundreds of thousands of dollars in compensation and pensions to tell us that warm weather will melt ice? Humans with reasonable functioning brains and thousands of years of scientific discovery are ignorant of the temperature at which water freezes. I can hear the explanation that if these bureaucrats and these simple[ton] warnings save one life; then it is worth the money. This may sound a little cold [definitely pardon the pun] but the probable truth is that a person who walks out on melting ice is prone to a certain level of stupidity which constantly puts their life in danger. Translation is: if falling through the ice does not kill them, there will be in the near future another act of stupidity which will.

Remember the saying, “You are not smart enough to come out of the rain [or don"t walk on the melting ice]?” After witnessing thousands of individual actions during Hurricane Katrina, this is truly a serious question to be asked. It still boggles the mind to observe humans who have been dumb-downed to the point that they are unable to rely on the most basic instincts for survival in the face of a major tropical storm. The only creative thought was to wait for some bureaucrat, who is paid hundreds of thousands of dollars in compensation and pensions, to lead them to a place which further endangers their lives.

Why do we in a country which out spends by a wide margin every other country when it comes to government-run education needs to have bureaucrats, who are paid hundreds of thousands of dollars in compensation and pensions, to warn them of the dangers of melting ice and that their lives may be in danger of flooding with the approach of a major hurricane. In the age of government inquisitions where the blame needs to be laid at the feet of someone, who is to blame for this mass stupidity? How was it that multitudes of past generations including ours were able to survive without a government decree telling us of the dangers of melting ice?

Unless there has been a stupid-gene mutation in the United States, then the blame rests directly on those in charge of education. The very same people who are responsible for the decline of our student achievement in the world [see today - post "Dear John"]. It is the very same people who acknowledge that 20% of graduating seniors in Hudson would be classified as remedial. Perhaps government schools need to come with this warning: “Beware this educational establishment may endanger your life or leave you without the sense to come out of the rain”
