Turn Out the Lights
ByOn Saturday, cities around the world darkened landmarks for an hour to bring awareness about the role of man-made emissions and climate change.
Imagine waking up on a Saturday morning anxious to play golf that afternoon. Your hopes of an enjoyable day on the links are quickly dashed as you look outside upon a snowy landscape and temperatures lower than the freezing mark.
You then quickly run downstairs to the basement where the circuit breakers for the house are located. With one masterful stroke of the finger, the entire power to the house is shutoff. Upon returning from the basement, you now hear birds chirping and lawnmowers buzzing. Gazing out the window, the dreary white scene of a few minutes ago has been transformed into a splash of many colors.
How wonderful it would be to change the weather with the flip of a switch. Of course such thought is engaging in harmless fantasy.
The reality of Saturday night’s display is a warning of where our madness over global warming is leading us. How long will it be before government regulations mandate that our lights be turned off, heat lowered to an uncomfortable level, or appliances such as stoves, washing machines, and refrigerators be disconnected.
Now imagine waking up on a dark and cold Saturday morning. You make your way downstairs by candlelight. The embers in the fireplace have nearly gone out causing you feverishly to run outside in the snow to gather more wood. Once the fire has been stoked, cooking pots designed for the fireplace are prepared with the morning’s breakfast.
What first appeared as an innocent exhibition of turning lights off has now started us off down the path of turning the clocks back in time. We may well be witnessing the beginning of the Dark Ages.
In the future, thoughts of golf and other leisure activity will be a distant fantasy as all human effort will be consumed in an effort to keep warm and fed.

remember years ago when the great American smoke-out came about. it seemed innocent enough in bringing awareness about the hazards of smoking. It now has evolved into an outright attack on property rights,
Spirit, i dread what you say may be more real than fiction.
