Unbelievable Quote of the Day

By

The members of the HPPOA and PAC took an oath to protect your rights under the Constitution of the United States of America, and we will continue to place our lives in harm – way to protect those rights.

Officer Glen Hartman

Link

Yes the same officer who was heard by another citizen verbally threatening bodily harm when hauling a citizen out of last June 14th’s Hudson School Board meeting after they were finished talking and were sitting down. This was a violation of that person’s first amendment rights and potentially the open record sunshine laws. This gentlemen was hauled out for nothing other than the content of his speech. So I would take anything this man person says with a grain of salt. After all, it was just on an Opinion page.

The question is, did Steve Dzubay or Randy Hanson run this letter by Mr. Trende to check it for “accuracy?”

    If not, why not?

Interesting point there Lenvik. So is this now the official policy of the Hudson Star Observer? One wonders…

Somehow I think Mr. Trende is not too happy with either Steve Dzubay or Randy Hanson (and obviously Curt Weese). The HSO boys did Trende no favors with that phone call, and Dzubay ticked off probably the last person in Hudson that you would want to irritate…

Also, the HSO’s admission, and now apparently so too Trende, that the chief was consulted is a bit troubling given the text that we now know was cut. Frankly, I don’t have complete knowledge on all of the matters raised by Curt in his letter, but some of them I do (two for sure) and in both of those cases they were absolutely accurate (embellished a bit, but essentially accurate).

I was going to comment more on this, but for now I think I’ll leave this one sit as is but will reserve comment for another time. I think all parties are irritated, no need to raise the temperature on this one further at this time…

    Just my two cents worth…..

I thought O’Malley’s letter was ridiculous and a slap in the face to those who do their jobs. To ininuate that your police department would delay an emergency response based on political views is a very damaging thing to say. Maybe all the police officers don’t always do things correctly, I think this was very damaging and I think in a true emergency the police would be there when needed. This is an alderman who almost lost on a last minute write in campaign over a liquor license issue downtown, and has since done what he could very quietly to damage those who dared campaign against him. If the police union was endorsing him or an existing member of the council whom he sides with, I doubt we’d see the letter.

Hartmans letter simply inflamed the situation, I guess I’d have rather seen the entire department speak up, or even the chief or leadership at city hall. Having this officer write the letter based on past experiences was not a good move. Trende probably is just ready to retire, the other supervisors may want the chiefs job, I think a leader would speak out for his staff or employees.

And I have to admit having employees speak up and are not part of a high powered union like the teachers makes me admire them a bit even if I don’t agree with the message. Based on some things I’ve read and heard I think there is a very present intimidation factor amongst employees there, hats off to them for at least taking a stand when most others would be scared to do so.

I can’t agree with this whole thing at all, but expressing their right to an opinion is something I can’t hold against them.

And as far as the 14th of June I’ll add more, I’m just trying to word it right.

Just to add, I’m glad the fire department hasn’t said they’d endorse a candidate, we might get warned that our houses could burn down too. Since the firefighters were not originally invited to the annual dinner where the city pays to feed employees at the country club, I wouldn’t blame them if they did. They did get invited after the mayor received some criticism and “reconsidered”. Another story.

“leadership at city hall” is an oxymoron.

    Whoops, I stand corrected! :-)
