Conn no reason to fret. Many of us here have evolved our philosophies which no longer encompass most of today – political class. The difference between most Republicans and Democrats has become so minute that it is indiscernible to tell them apart; thus the saying, “same whore in a different dress.” The new political revolution is emerging with its foundation grounded in the philosophy of classical liberalism from which this country was founded upon. As with all movements it starts as a spark and then grows into a raging fire. Most noticeably the debate is taking shape locally and you are correct to stay involved in local government school issues. It is the 800 lb. gorilla which sustains collectivism. It is a battle sooner or later that they lose. As former NOW leader Tammy Bruce said the other day on C-Span [paraphrase], “The collectivist are in full panic mode over their house of cards crumbling in the face of today – philosophical winds.” Keep your chin up and keep swinging.
I agree with Dr. Spirit, and remember always “VOTE NO”!
After I posted this I got a call from the GOP axing me for 75 dollars
to keep up the good fight.I said “no thanks and take me off the list”.
spirits words are wisdom and I will keep up the local fight.conn
I’m not at all shocked by the droves of ditto-heads suddenly turning tail on W & company. Now the country is full of you gun-slinging libertarians…all pulling yourselves up by the bootstraps that you made yourselves. Way to go Sour Grapes! Gripin’ and fightin’ til yer purple in the face.
Dear Librarian, Unlike the droves of collectivists on the other side whose primary mission in life is to obtain a government pension and work even less after retirement than they did before, some of us on the “right” side of the equation actually have some sort of moral fiber that allows us to differ from those that we support in office. You see, for you the ends justify the means, that is why all throughout the 90’s as we were holding our noses at the hillbilly from Arkansas, you justifed his behavior to no end. I personally agree with Conn. “W” is spending us into bankruptcy, although you would argue that we need to raise taxes in order to break even. I would argue that we need to cut spending and cut it deep, beginning with your pension and healthcare.
And who should we have voted for..? Some no chance in heck 3rd party? Kerry? 3rd parties are a waste of effort. It will be much easier to reform the one party that typically tries to aligns itself with conservatism. I am a conservative first, a GOP member second. I would much prefer listening to Sour Grapes than anything offered on the other side of the isle.
Suddenly turning tail? I think not. What the left fully does not comprehend is that the very large and growing tent on the right side of the road comes there, on balance, with some tightly held and defendable moral principles. Be it religious authority or the ethical egoism embodied by classical liberalism /capitalism, the principals do not get swept under the rug. We push and push hard because we understand our positions are morally defendable. The left, on balance, has no such ground to stand on.
Personally, I (and others on this blog at least) am on record prior to W even being the nominee the first go-round stating that I did not perceive him as the perfect candidate but a solid step in the right direction. His ability to return honor and dignity to the White House was enough for me. He has done that, and I am in deep gratitude to him, but that does not mean that I leave my philosophy behind. There is much do be undone before this country returns to the vision of The Founders. I actually wrote about this matter over two months ago - link here -
I will not speak for anyone except myself, but I would hope others on the right felt and feel that way. We have been complaining for several years about the big government tendencies of W specifically NCLB, the farm bill, medicare, etc.
I simply do not recall the libs chastising Clinton on philosophical grounds in anything remotely resembling the same intellectual debates. Perhaps the librarian has a case of selective hearing…
